A Timeless Lesson!

Citizens sacrificing freedom for security isn't a new problem. Even way back in biblical times this kind of stinking thinking came to pass. I was reminded of this while reading the Bible: I Samuel 7,8 chapter 8. When Samuel was old and the spiritual leader over Israel, he appointed his sons to be judges. Well they fell to temptation and accepted bribes and became corrupt. The people of Israel approached Samuel fed up and asked him to appoint a king as they knew he was getting old and without his leadership they would be lost. They held little hope for the future as they've already seen his sons were not up to the task. The Bible tells us Samuel asked the Lord for guidance and here's what he told him. The Lord explained his followers weren't rejecting Samuel's leadership but the freedom the Lord had allowed the people of Israel. He told them go explain the consequences of having a monarchy to the people and see if they don't realize how good they have it now.

Samuel explained to the people of Israel that a king would take their sons and appoint them for himself, to run his chariots and be his horseman. He would appoint captains to rule over you to enforce his edicts. A king would take your daughters and enslave them to his service. He'd take their crops and your domestic help and lastly he'd take your sheep. This is the price of being "taken care of."

Samuel was trying to explain it was better to freely serve the Lord and answer to His law,(The Ten Commandments), than to appoint an king to edict his own will. Absolute power corrupts absolutely Sadly the story goes on to tell us the people of Israel insisted in moving forward rejecting God given freedom for the security of someone telling them what to do and how to live.

This is a great example of how throughout history foolish people have rejected the advantages of living free for the security and constraints of being "taken care of." Hey, this angered the Lord, his people rejected freedom, ergo rejecting Him, but he let them learn the hard way. Are we being taught the same lesson?

Politicians, men and women, who insist religion has no place in our government are seeking to enslave us to their rule. They look to tax us out of the fruits of our labor, so they can live off us. They indoctrinate our children in their schools to see the advantages of being"taken care of", as if there is no other way. We were born free men and women, answering only to our God above, yet like the children of Israel we yearn the comfort of security. God has warned them through Samuel, and countless examples in history has shown us this is never a good idea. Only the weak of spirit turn to others for security, and the result is always disaster.

So with that in mind, who's for universal health care? Extended unemployment benefits? Cap and trade? Taking Christ out of Christmas? How about welfare? Food stamps? Or are we a people who value freedom, praise our God, and shoulder the responsibility of taking care of our brothers ourselves? Food for thought!

God Bless
