I've been a little hard on the education system of late, and for good reason. Has anyone else noticed that there isn't leaders like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, or Ben Franklin to name a few, in Washington? Is it a coincidence that they all lived in the same era? I think not! Our education system hasn't produced thinkers and leaders for a very long time. I challenge you to point out someone in Washington with the patriotic leadership skills of George Washington. Here's a man who fought a war, survived countless winters without clothing and supplies for he and his men, and did it all without pay for the birth of our nation. Nancy Pelosi would be gone in a heartbeat if you took away her private jet and her bottled water allowance. How many in DC would work without pay and benefits for the service of their country?
Name a thinker in Washington like Ben Franklin. There hasn't been one in a very long time. How about a politician who could orate like Abraham Lincoln, composing speeches like the Gettysburg address without an army of speech writers? I think the last I can think of was Martin Luther King. Any actor can read a script from a tele-prompter.
Give me a current politician who could write legislation like Thomas Jefferson, void of an army of special interest lobbyist and constitutional lawyers. They don't exist. Our politicians aren't scholars nor are they leaders. They lack the ability to think through problems, because they were trained to do a task, not taught to think.
Our education system produces great doctors, program designers, and any other system trained performers, but to think is a lost art.
Let's grab hold of the new math they teach. When I went to school, if you earned two dollars then saved two dollars you had four dollars. Now the new teaching is you have two dollars, then you borrow fifty dollars, for a sum of one hundred dollars, on paper at least. In reality that fiat, or paper money doesn't exist and the fifty you borrowed the interest you owe on it has eaten up the original two dollars you had, leaving you with a deficit. Now you know why America is in the hole to the tune of trillions.
It wasn't an accident Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, and other thinkers and patriots lived in that era. They were products of their education and their upbringing. My point is we need to get back to that kind of education to ensure the future of our country. That process produced common sense thinkers and principle based leaders.
God Bless
Capt. Bill
