And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”-Luke 3:11
Note this passage tells us the individual who has excess should be charitable and share with those less fortunate. There is nothing here about the government taking from that successful subject and redistributing his goods. Our Creator gave us the option to be charitable, or to be selfish when He endowed us with inalienable rights, like the right to choose sin or charity. We have a free will, and a moral obligation to fulfill. It's not any government's job to oversee your morality.
Here's why....
As individuals we can direct our charity more efficiently. There is no bureaucracy to take it's slice of the pie. We are also more astute to the need of our local microcosm than a distant government office can be.
The government bureau that accounts for budgets, (the CBO), tells us that the government applies thirty cents of every dollar toward the actual cause it was intended for. Would it be hard for anyone to be more efficient than that? I think not...Keep the government out of charity.
God Bless!
