"No man who is resolved to make the most of himself, can spare time for personal contention. Still less can he afford to take the consequences, including the vitiation of temper and the loss of self control. Yield larger things to which you show no more than equal rights; and the lesser ones though clearly your own. Better give your path to a dog than be bitten by him in contesting for the right. Even killing the dog will not cure the bite." -Abraham Lincoln
Wise words for this Sunday morning. I wonder why more people don't consider them? I have to confess I'm also guilty of not applying the wisdom of Lincoln. I can't help but wonder how much further down this path of self improvement I'd be had I been privy to this lesson and heeded it earlier?
" Hatred is never ended by hatred but by love"-Buddha
A misunderstanding is never ended by an argument but by tact and diplomacy, conciliation and a sympathetic desire to see the other person's view point. Even if the offender is dead wrong, hear our opponent out, and look for areas where you agree. Then address the areas of contention with tact and reason. Question the source of the information, and offer to supply your source. Often times I've found the disagreement is simply cause by the application of hearsay not facts. Above all use tact!
It's great to disagree. It shows you both have an interest in a common cause! And remember if two partners always agree, one of them is not necessary!
God Bless!
