What Comes First!

Every once in awhile it's a great idea to sit back and review your priorities in life. Think about what's most important to you, and review your schedule to see if your devoting time in proportion. Mine run in this order.

Faith
Family
Friends
Work

After further review I've found the things that mean the most to me get the least attention. Out of a twenty four hour day I spend at least eight of it at work, another eight sleeping, and the balance divided between faith, family, and friends. Does that seem out of wack to anyone else? Work is at the bottom of the list yet demands the bulk of my day. Faith is at the top but receives the smallest portion of my time daily. Consequently family and friends battle for time with entertainment, reading, and whatever other issues pop up.

So is it any wonder with today's schedule, that the family is neglected? Kids and spouse are fighting for attention between everything in our busy lives that needs addressing. Mom's are required to contribute to the family income just for survival sake, and who pays the price? Kids are sent to concentration camps for eight hours a day, while mom fights to pay that bill on top of mounting others. Isn't it a wonder that children raised by others even look to mom and dad for guidance? It speaks volumes to disarray and lack of values exhibited to the youth of today. Seems the answer to why kids walk into schools and commit atrocities is right in front of us. Our priorities are out of wack!

Could this also be the answer to the abysmal divorce rate we've grown so accustom to? Spouses are forced by economics to spend the majority of their day way from the ones they love in the company of others. After the stress of the job and eking out some time with the kids, what's left for the person you've chosen to spend eternity with?

The nuclear family is appropriately named. It's a wonder it doesn't all blow up in your face. Step back and review your priorities, and see if your devoting the time required to the things most important in your life. If we can adjust our schedules in the interest of the things that matter in our lives, perhaps we can influence a paradigm shift. Move society toward the family unit instead of drifting away. It doesn't have to be a brave new world!

God Bless
