Let's imagine someone was taking money out of your wallet everyday, stealing it if you were. How long would you tolerate it before you took action to end this theft? Personally, there wouldn't be a second opportunity to get at my funds.
So, let's apply this to the reoccurring theme of healthcare. Once again Washington is attempting to pass legislation to control either the insurance companies, or the cost of healthcare. They really haven't been clear on the objective, but it seems if they control one it's suppose to address the other. Now, the signature piece of the cost savings of this legislation, is the money saved by reforming the fraud in Medicare and Medicaid, theft of our money. So after a year and a month of being in office and bringing us, hope and change. What has this administration done to stop the theft of our tax dollars in Medicare and Medicaid? Nada, zip, zilch, nothing, zero! So, if your going to base a plan upon reducing fraud, wouldn't it be stellar to attempt to confront that theft ASAP, and use it as a selling point? Or are the American tax payers being sold another,"pig in a poke?" You decide, but I know a boat load of hooey, when I see one! What's the hold-up?
We as tax payers are constantly being mislead by people we are suppose to trust. They flat out lie to us. They are trying to sell us this legislation with pro forma accounting. These budgets should begin with the line,"once upon a time", because they are all manipulated fairy tales. Inflated and imaginary numbers replace facts, savings and cost cutting are overstated, then they excuse this knowingly wrong report with,"The situation was worse than even we imagined." Trust me they have the "imagined" part correct, but that's where it ends. This is the kind of accounting that Enron used to deceive it's investors and cook the books. Washington was appalled when that debacle appeared, yet the same accounting principles are used to deceive,"We the people."
They are counting on us being financial illiterates. It's not unlike an unsuspecting customer walking into a unscrupulous auto repair shop and hearing.... "Your quatostat has become defective due to a over modulation of the thermosyntofier, in turn the muffler bearing is producing a vibration that induces the production of rubber worms."
We need to be educated. The media needs to do it's job too. So many times a politician is questioned to the point he, or she gives a reply, but no one challenges the validity of the statement. Just once I'd love to hear the second question be,"Why is that", or "Where do you get those figures from?" Facts and figures are too often made up on the spot to fit the need. It's up to us and the media to hold them accountable. Let's raise the bar to a higher level!
God Bless
