What An Experience!

You never stop going to the school of experience!

Knowledge comes from experience, not the mind!

These are two great statements that we who study life and leadership should always keep in mind. We don't invent knowledge, we grasp understanding through our experiences. Think about math for instance. We all learned math by first experiencing the process to solve the problem, then applying those principles to come to a logical conclusion. Our minds didn't know that 2+2=4 until we gained that knowledge through experience.

Everyday is an experience. Each one holds it's own unique lesson for us to absorb. Some are subtle and some hit us over the head like a bat, but we never stop experiencing. The wonderful thing about this process is we have a say in what we experience, and we can gain by the experience of others by reading. What an outstanding process! We are capable of avoiding the pitfalls of others simply by digesting their written words. How cool is that?

The great part is, we are only limited in experience, or knowledge if you will, by what we choose to fertilize our minds with. Would it be better to digest the philosophy of Plato, Aristotle, or Socrates, or fill your mind with the next episode of "punked?"

We gain experience by saving the phenomena, and we make choices as to what that phenomena is. What fills your head guides you through the decision making process. The more I understand this, the more I understand why society is where it is at today. Our intelligence has been under assault, and it's fair to say the wounds we received were self inflicted!

God Bless!
Capt. Bill
