A Parent's Legacy!

You may have tangible wealth untold; Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold. Richer than I you can never be-i had a mother who read to me! -Strickland Gillian

One of the best ways that parents can strengthen family ties and simultaneously teach sound moral principles is to read to, and with their children. -Helen R. LeGette

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.-Dorothy Law Nolte

Strong families emphasis that good communication doesn't necessarily happen; it usually takes time and practice.-Nick Stinnett and John DeFrain

Manners will become important to children only if they are important to their parents.-Thomas Lickona

Just as children do not inherit good character, they do not inherit good manners. They must be taught.- Helen R. LeGette

Every word that parents and children speak, every action that parents and their children take, and every deed that parents and their children perform help to create the children's "memory bank." That record, that "memory bank" becomes the parents' history and posterity. For the children, it is their inheritance and their destiny.- Rabbi Wayne Dosick

All very powerful words, no? I don't know about you but they caused me to reflect on what legacy I've left behind. I'm thinking this wisdom will make a great Christmas present to my boys and their future spouses, when the time is appropriate.

God Bless!
Capt. Bill
