The fictional character Homer Simpson is a man of simple means, and even simpler thought. When confronted with a situation where the simple reality that he's been outsmarted he often shouts, "DOE!"
Cass Sunstein, the Obama administration's regulatory czar has remarked we, being the citizens of this great nation, all have a little Homer Simpson in us. And it's necessary for the government to "nudge" us with regulation so we respond as the government requires.
The arrogance of that statement is enough to send me off into ten or twelve blog topics alone, but the underlying message is we are too stupid to do the right thing, and it's necessary for the government to "control" our actions for our own good.
John Kerry the esteemed Massachusetts Senator was taped recently saying that the voting population is less than informed, and can easily be distracted by a catchy slogan or two. Maybe he learned this from,"Yes we can," or perhaps, "Hope and Change?"
Bottom line, they all believe we are stupid. The Homer Simpson reference may have more impact than you might suspect. Could the writers of that show be sending us a subliminal message? Homer Simpson is a product of Springfield,USA, and it's public school system. Overseen by...You guessed it....D.O.E.
