A Tale of Two Men!

There are but a few things that stand out in my memory when it comes to the history I've lived. Some of my earliest memories are of President Kennedy's addresses to this nation way back in the dawn of the 1960's. When the President spoke back then, everyone stopped and listened. In fact it was often broadcast over the PA system in our school. I remember the President asking the country to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country," a call to patriotism. Times were tough, and he was trying to break an entitlement mentality, a group sacrifice for the good of the nation. We rallied together as a nation, and responded in kind to that request to be unselfish.

The President then addressed Congress and called for American exceptionalism. He declared a challenge to, walk a man on there moon in the next before the decade expired. Again our country responded favorably, and began inventing the technology necessary, where none had existed prior to that time.

I also remember an American-African standing for an unpopular cause, and describing his dream. Where all men were judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stood in solidarity with others who believed in his cause, with a look of fear and determination about his face. It was a justified fear, as if he knew his cause would have consequences.

These are great example of how great leaders inspire a nation to respond in a favorable manner. There are no lies here, no apologies, no spin. They both energized the country, they both confronted the problems of their time with the truth, and they have both gone down in history as great men Not just because they gave their life for what they believed in, but more for the results they achieved.

Where has our leadership gone?

God Bless!
Capt. Bill
