Politically Correct!

My dear long lost friend from school Terry brought up a great point about yesterday's blog. The last verse of America The Beautiful is worded; "A whiter jubilee." In these times that could be construed as a racist comment. Back in the day when it was composed, they weren't as politically correct nor as sensitive as folks are today. Perhaps a replacement of "whiter" with the PC "brighter" would be more appropriate!

Political correctness is getting all the headlines now a days. Trying to be sensitive to religious beliefs led to the Army and CIA not confronting the terrorist who just shot up Fort Hood. So it begs the question; Where do we draw the line? Every Muslim isn't a terrorist, yet every terrorist is a Muslim. It's quite a catch 22, one that makes me glad to be of a different faith.

I think we have to rely back on the blame game our liberal friends are so fond of using. Just as it's not the gun that caused the murder, it's not the belief that causes the terrorist. It's simply wrong thinking. It's how you interpret what is available to you that determines the outcome. If you interpret a gun as power and an offensive weapon, you're abusing the privilege to own one. If you read radical extremism into the teachings of the Muslim faith, you're also abusing our fellow man.

How do overcome this? Well, my father raised six kids around guns. Ammo and weapons were readily available and within reach, it was never abused. Why? Because we were taught respect for the weapons and the consequences of the improper use of one. We were taught how to safely use and act with a gun, from as early as I can remember. Same applies to the Muslim faith. Teaching the correct use of the principles outlined in their religion by the elders will reap responsibility. It's the radical teachings that spoils the flock, so we must insist Muslim leaders respect their responsibility to the world. Leadership is influence, good and bad. Leaders bear the responsibility of their followers and their actions. (See TEAM leadership and Orrin and Chris's blog for more on this subject).

Muslim religion is based on the same principles we all believe, The Golden Rule. The answer to the problem is to weed the garden so the fruit may blossom. Problem solved and not one tax dollar spent!
